Zihao W. - Team leader
I am currently a PhD student in Computer Science and Informatics. I have taken courses like Machine Learning, Neural Computation, Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence, etc. I am working on developing and applying general Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithm in the area of Natural Language Processing. Right now, I am working on a Neural Network project that utilizes Word2vec and Convolutional Neural Network to explore twitter data, in order to infer users' characteristics and their opinions towards popular political issues.
Bonggun S.
I am a first year student in the computer science PhD program. I received my master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and my bachelor’s degree of computer engineering in Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). My research interest includes artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language process (NLP). More specifically, I am interested in document classification problems with attention mechanisms. Since the current results of my research are promising, I am preparing to submit a paper soon.
Ethan Z.
I'm a junior undergrad interested in machine learning.
Gary L.
I'm a first year master student in computer science. I obtained my BS degree in Industrial and Information management from National Cheng Kung University(NCKU). Before I joined Emory, I had 2 years work experience in software and web development. My research interests are in machine learning and natural language processing.
Payam K.
I received my B.Cs. in CS from Iran University of Science and Technology in 2008, and my M.Sc. in CS from Tehran University in 2011. My interest is information retrieval and social network analysis, and have 5 years working experience in related areas. Also have a couple of publications in IPM journal, JIS journal, and CLEF conference. My previous research competition was RepLab contest in 2014, which Our team at Tehran university achieved first place in the author ranking track. Currently, I am a first year P.HD. student at Emory university, working under the supervision of Dr. Eugene Agichtein.
Tomasz J.
Tomasz is a PhD candidate in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. He is a member of Emory NLP group, working with Prof. Jinho D. Choi on Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing for Question Answering problems. Tomasz completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. at the University of Technology in Wroclaw, Poland. He worked in Tieto Poland for 2 years where he was responsible for Configuration Management. He is focused on improving question answering systems and making them capable of solving complex questions.
Eugene Agichtein - Faculty advisor
I am an Associate Professor in the Math and Computer Science department, and am on the core faculty of the Emory Biomedical Informatics program. I founded and lead the Emory Intelligent Information Access Laboratory. My research interests are in web search and information retrieval, text and data mining, and human-computer interaction. I got a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University, and a B.S. in Engineering from The Cooper Union. I am also a Sloan Research Fellow, a member of the DARPA Computer Science Study Group, and a recipient of four best paper awards.
