GauchoBot

From beautiful Santa Barbara, California we are team GauchoBot.

The UCSB GauchoBot team reflects our decade-long commitment in Natural Language Processing, Multimodal Machine Learning, and Dialogue Systems research at UCSB‘s AI and NLP Groups. The team includes graduate and undergraduate students, led by faculty advisors, Profs. Xifeng Yan and William Wang. The vision of the GauchoBot team is to develop fundamental innovations in task-oriented multimodal dialogue and create better user experience when interacting with intelligent devices for complex tasks. Our efforts in this competition builds on our extensive past research and development for intelligent virtual conversational agents.

Alon A. - Team leader

Alon is a third year PhD student, advised by professors Xifeng Yan and William Wang. His research focus is in incorporating external knowledge into natural language processing through transfer learning and logic.

Qiru H.

Qiru is a second-year undergraduate Computer Science student at UCSB. She is interested in machine learning. She has experience in the field of offline learning and off policy evaluation in reinforcement learning.

Jing Q.

Is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Computer Science Department at University of California, Santa Barbara. I am advised by Prof. Xifeng Yan. My research interest covers natural language processing, deep learning, and computational social science. Specifically, I aim at developing NLP tools that can detect, analyze, and control the generation of offensive text.

Hong W.

I am a fourth-year PhD student majoring in Computer Science at UCSB, advised by Prof. Xifeng Yan. I am currently interested in dialogue, especially on low resource settings. I have worked on information extraction and reasoning over knowledge graph, especially on how to design models for lifelong learning and few-shot learning settings. I also have some experience in open-domain question answering, pre-training methods with self-supervised learning, and low resource Natural Language Processing. I am outgoing, cheerful as easily to communicate and cooperate with others.

Shiyang L.

I am a third year Ph.D. student at the Department of Computer Science, University of California, Santa Barbara, advised by Prof. Xifeng Yan. Prior to that, I obtained my B.Eng. degree in Computer Science and Technology with honors from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Harbin, China.

Yingrui Y.

Yingrui is a graduate student with a research focus in information retrieval. She is interested in data science in particular developing solutions for business use cases.
