Diogo Silva - Team leader
Diogo Silva is a third-year PhD student at the Nova School of Science and Technology in Portugal. His current research focuses on language generation in multimodal conversational systems, specifically systems for multi-turn procedural plan assistance.
Rafael Ferreira
Rafael Ferreira is a 4th-year Computer Science PhD student. His research focuses on AI-based conversational assistants, focusing on rating prediction and user simulation to test system robustness. He led the award-winning team TWIZ in the two editions of the Alexa Prize TaskBot Challenge, showcasing expertise in designing and implementing innovative AI solutions.
Diogo Tavares
Diogo is a Computer Science PhD student focusing on Language Model controllability. He works on making AI systems more reliable and aligned with human needs. His research aims to improve how we guide and direct large language models.
João Soares
João holds a BsC degree in Computer Science and is currently an MSc finalist at FCT Nova. Joao has previously helped develop a virtual shopping assistant using LLMs and vision models. His current research focuses on multimodal conversational agents.
Artur Horal
Artur holds a BSc degree in Computer Science and is currently a MSc CS finalist. He is currently researching LLM control mechanisms to solve multiple tasks with a single model. He also has a track record of working in blockchain technologies.
Iago Paulo
Iago holds a BSc degree in Computer Science and is currently a MSc CS finalist at FCT NOVA. His research at the moment focuses on enhancing large language models for improved conversational abilities and knowledge retention. He aims to advance natural language understanding and interaction in AI.
Daniel Pina
Daniel holds a BsC degree in Computer Science and is currently an MSc finalist at FCT NOVA. Daniel has previously collaborated in the development of the Multimodal Conversational Agent for the Portuguese Navy. His current research focuses are Conversational Agents.
David Semedo - Faculty advisor
David Semedo (PhD, 2020) is an Assistant Professor at FCT NOVA. His research focuses on AI for vision and language problems, with a special emphasis on neural approaches for conversational and contextualized media understanding. He was the Faculty co-advisor of the TWIZ team, winner of the 2022 Alexa TaskBot Challenge.
João Magalhães - Faculty advisor
João Magalhães (PhD, Imperial College London, UK, 2008) is a Full Professor at NOVA University. His expertise covers the different problems of vision and language understanding, and multimodal conversational search and AI. He was the Faculty co-Advisor of the 2021 and 2022 Alexa TaskBot Challenge team TWIZ.
